Do not go to Occidental unless you enjoy sleeping in a humid and musky jungle. Now we are having to fight to get a refund for the days we were not there, let alone trying to get a full refund for the horrible conditions. This was by far the worst vacation we've ever been on. We were told that the island was experiencing major outages, though staff members confirmed that it was only at the resort. Everyone, including the staff were fed up with the conditions. To top everything off, there were multiple blackouts at the resort for hours at a time. The two hot sleepless nights were the worst I've ever had while on vacation! It eventually got to the point where the management was not willing to do anything so we cut our trip short and go home rather than suffer through. Those who had "working" A/C could only get it to cool to 78 deg F. Upon talking with other guests they were experiencing the same issue. When we contacted the concierge and manager they gave us the run around, offering a couple other rooms that did not have functioning A/Cs either. Our room A/C did not function more than to blow the 83 deg F humid air around. The resort itself was okay and most of the staff were very nice and helpful. I don't write a lot of reviews but this one was noteworthy. Do something more with the buffet and restaurant food!!!!! Do some spraying for the insects Clean up the areas and the pool! Change the hours of the pool bars and get more than one server! Allow snacks to be ordered so it makes it easier to relax. Cut back some of the plants and clean up the standing water for the bugs. I will never go back and anyone that asks me if I would recommend this place I would tell them NOT A CHANCE! It was the only place I have ever stayed at that I couldn't wait to leave Tips for the management: Do something about the water situation and air-conditioning. We were able to finally have a comfortable meal. The food was good and the waiters were awesome. The only reason I am giving this resort 3 stars is because we ate at one of the Royal Level restaurants (comped by the resort because of the disaster of the check in we had) The restaurant was the only place we felt air conditioning. The restaurant and bar were always excessively hot!!!! I don't think there was air-conditioning anywhere but at the Royal Level restaurant. What was supposed to be warm was cold and what was supposed to be cold was warm. We had a cooler, packed it with ice and beer and vodka in a water bottle and did our own drinks. The beer was always warm!! We went to the MEGA and bought our own beer and alcohol (which defeats the purpose of all inclusive. The line for the drinks is about 15 minutes long and the drinks might as well be water. You have to wait until 10:30 am to get a drink and while at the pool there is only one waitress taking drink orders. If you are looking for a place with a beach.go somewhere else because there isn't one and the pool is dirty. The bugs are hideous!!! Be prepared to get eaten ALIVE! I came home with over 100 bites even though I used OFF. If you are looking to have a cold shower.GOOD LUCK The 5 days we spent there we had to take cold showers which wasn't ideal but I guess since you can't get any air conditioning in the room it helps. There were no towels in our room when we finally got in. I will never stay here again! We checked in at 4:30 pm when check in is at 3 Pm only to find our room wasn't ready We waiting for over an hour and when we finally tried to get in the room (which our luggage was in) the key fab didn't work.
